Traffic on I-270 Spur before Outer Loop moving again after crash, fuel spill

Traffic is moving again following a morning crash involving a tractor-trailer and fuel spill on the southbound Interstate 270 Spur to the Capital Beltway’s Outer Loop in Montgomery County, Maryland.

The ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½ Traffic Center first reported the crash in Bethesda at 9:28 a.m. on Sunday.

A firefighter on the scene told ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½ there is was an active diesel spill near the Bradley Boulevard overpass.

All lanes of traffic were open by 12:28 p.m.

Salt and sand could be seen spread across the roadway.

A heavy-duty wrecker tow truck joined firefighters and hazmat crews at the scene before 11 a.m. when the southbound I-270 Spur was still closed at Democracy Boulevard following the crash.

The Beltway’s Outer Loop (I-495) remained open between Old Georgetown Road and River Road, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer.

Traffic caught between the crash scene and Democracy Boulevard, where the road was closed, was being bled off in a single left lane by 11:35 a.m.

Two people suffered minor injuries in the crash, Piringer said.
