An 87-year-old man died of smoke inhalation and respiratory burns in a wind-driven fire that destroyed his home in Cabin John, Maryland, Monday night.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Pete Piringer identified the man as Alfredo E. Peak.
Piringer said firefighters found Peak’s single-family home engulfed in flames on Anchorage Drive off MacArthur Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. Monday.
A second person in the house was not hurt.
Piringer said some 65 firefighters were on the scene of the fire, which is believed to have started in the living room. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Firefighters on Tuesday will go door-to-door in Peak’s neighborhood to talk about fire safety.
