A driver struck a Maryland State Police trooper on southbound Interstate 270 during Wednesday morning’s commute, sending the officer to Suburban Hospital, police said.
A state police crash team is investigating exactly what happened when Trooper Brian DeHaven was struck at 6:10 a.m. while conducting a traffic stop just before West Montgomery Avenue.

The and struck DeHaven, the state police Ford Explorer and the 2019 Kia that DeHaven pulled over on the left shoulder at Exit 6/West Montgomery Avenue. The state police vehicle had its emergency lights on when DeHaven was struck.
DeHaven was standing between the Jersey wall and the driver’s side of the Kia when he was struck.
The drivers of the Venza and Kia were not hurt, police said.
The High Occupancy Vehicle lane and another left lane remain closed for almost 3 1/2 hours.
