Apple Music, the newest player in a crowded streaming field

WASHINGTON — Do you remember the novelty of Pandora? It’s tough to imagine now, but at one time, the idea that you could stream music to your computer was completely foreign.

Now, sites like Spotify, Songza and Google Play allow streaming. Artists like Thom Yorke (of Radiohead) and Taylor Swift have railed against the streaming option, saying it takes funds from the artists with minimal returns.

On Tuesday, Apple Music launched its streaming service after with Swift. But is it worth it?

“It’s a good service to consider if you have a MacBook Air on your desk, you have an Apple TV in front of your TV, if you have an iPad on your coffee table and an iPhone in your pocket,” says Rob Pegoraro, tech columnist for Yahoo! Tech and USA Today. “Otherwise, we’ve gotta see. Right now, it’s limited.”

Pegoraro doesn’t know if he likes Apple Music better than Spotify, but the newest service has a radio station curated by actual DJs and tastemakers.
