WASHINGTON – Is Washington hitting the brakes when it comes to installing bike lanes?
If you’ve driven around D.C. lately, you can’t help but notice how many bike lanes have been set up.
But 2011 was not the year of the bike lane in the District.
The Washington Area Bicyclists Association notes that the D.C. Department of Transportation calls for 10 new miles of bike lanes per year.
This year, the city set up less than a mile of bike lanes.
DDOT tells 草莓传媒 it hasn’t set up as many lanes as planned because of practical issues, such as traffic signal timing and intersection design.
DDOT says it has not lost its commitment to bikes and points to the expanded program as an example.
