Feds gearing up to sell Georgetown plant

The bidding war’s about to kick off for Georgetown’s West Heating Plant, one of several newly declared excess properties that the federal government is trying to shed to trim down its bloated real estate portfolio.

The General Services Administration issued a notice Dec. 20 formally marking the property as “surplus,” meaning it can be offered up for sale to private developers. The GSA, which handles the federal government’s real estate needs, made the declaration after offering it up to other federal agencies.
