WASHINGTON – Montgomery County police have identified the driver of a car that crashed into a tree in Chevy Chase early Friday morning, killing two backseat passengers.
Officials say Reynard Osman, 16, was driving a Toyota Echo near Connecticut Avenue and East-West Highway around 1:13 a.m. After running the plates, officers determined the vehicle had been reported stolen.
Before they could stop the car, it sped up and struck a tree at Chevy Chase Circle.
The driver and his front seat passenger, 18-year-old Reeco Richardson, were rescued from the burning car. They were transported to a local hospital, Osman with life-threatening injuries and Richardson with non-life-threatening injuries.
The two rear passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision shut down portions of Connecticut Avenue through the morning rush.
