Weekend entertainment guide: Top picks around town

WASHINGTON – The birds are chirping and the flowers are blooming. Put some pep in your step this weekend with cycling, storytelling and some good ol’ fashioned rock n’ roll.

One night, seven bands, many journalists rocking out to each other. Yes, it’s that time of year again: takes over the Friday night. For the uninitiated, it’s an annual music fest featuring bands entirely comprised of D.C. journalists. It’s about as “inside the Beltway” as you can get, but at least proceeds go to . Show time is 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 to $30 and can be or at the door.

Also on Friday night, local artist Amber Robles-Gordon debuts her new show “With Every Fiber of My Being” at the in Anacostia. Her latest works re-purpose secondhand materials such as clothes and accessories to tell a personal narrative. The opening reception goes from 7 to 9 p.m. Call 202-365-8392 for more information.

Saturday, the stylish folks over at host the , a cycling race and party all rolled into one. Riders of all levels will test their skills in a transformed underground parking garage turned indoor course. The race kicks off at 2 p.m. for more information.

Saturday and Sunday nights, head to the Dance Place in Brookland for “Story Showdown: A Storytelling Game Show.” The night is broken up into four rounds of games: Cliffhanger, Cover Up, Memory and Switcheroo with contestants chosen at random from the audience. March is , and what better way to celebrate than with a festival of female musicians? is a free concert Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Rock Spring Congregational Church in Arlington.
