WASHINGTON – Drivers tired of fighting traffic may be able to take their commutes to the skies with what is expected to be a pricey flying car.
Dutch company , which stands for Personal Air and Land Vehicle, is shopping for investors and nearly ready to debut its flying car.
The three-wheel vehicle, which can fly for up to 315 miles at speeds of 110 mph, resembles a small helicopter. The craft is expected to have a starting price of about $300,000, according to PAL-V CEO and co-founder Robert Dingemanse.
The machine is quieter than a helicopter due to the slower rotation of a self-generated rotor. The company says it takes off and lands with low speed, cannot stall and is very easy to control, making it one of the safest types of aircraft.
Drivers who also are pilots will need a private pilot’s license to operate the cars. The PAL-V is anticipating deliveries around 2014.
