Md. employers can’t have access to social media passwords

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Employers in Maryland won’t be able to ask for employees’ passwords to Facebook, Twitter or any other social media account.

The state has passed a bill banning the practice.

The move comes after Maryland’s corrections department asked a job applicant to turn over his Facebook password.

The bill was passed unanimously by the state Senate and a wide margin in the House. It now awaits the governor’s signature.

Maryland is the first state to pass such a law.
