Scam strikes close to home

FREDERICK, Md. – As warmer weather approaches, homeowners are being warned of a surprising door-to-door scam.

Frederick County Deputy Greg Warner says home improvement scammers are soliciting door-to-door.

“They’ll show up, they’ll typically offer a discounted rate, or what people believe to be a discounted rate,” Warner says.

“Right now the ones we see most commonly is the sealing of driveways.”

Warner says the scammers also often offer painting and roofing services. He warns that these types of services are never offered door-to-door and that people should always ask to see a license.
