WASHINGTON – This weekend is all about moms. Take her to the symphony, watch aerial ballet or see a circus in action.
The Kennedy Center is wrapping up its , which has been spreading music, art and dance throughout D.C. all week. Friday night, head downtown to watch aerial dance company Project Bandaloop perform while dangling from the side of the Old Post Office building at 9 p.m.
On Saturday, culminates with a day-long festival at Navy Yards from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Catch performances by Nick Cave’s famed Soundsuits, watch giant puppets and hear tons of live music. Both events on Friday and Saturday are free to the public.
Don’t miss the at the Capital Plaza Mall all weekend. Dancers from Trinidad, a horse act from Russia and French aerialists are just a few of the wonders offered. Tickets are $15 to $30. or call for more information. Performances end May 20, and then the circus heads up to Baltimore.
After you’ve finished with the mimosas and brunch on Sunday, relax with some music. at the as the Capital City Symphony ends its season with Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. The performance starts at 5 p.m. or call 202-399-7993.
For families with younger children, try at the Kennedy Center Sunday at 1 p.m. and again at 3 p.m. The National Symphony Orchestra program pairs narrations by children’s poet laureate Jack Prelutsky with animal illustrations by Mary GrandPre’s projected on screens.
