Report: Redskins the world’s 5th most valuable team

WASHINGTON – You don’t have to be the most liked team or even the winningest to be among the most valuable, according to a new report.

The Washington Redskins, under the resources of owner Dan Snyder, are the fifth most valuable team in the world, according to , with an overall value of $1.56 billion.

This comes months after offering a veritable fortune for rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III. The team has pinned their hopes on RGIII of improving a record that includes only three playoff appearances since 1999. The Heisman Trophy winner’s performance at the professional level is still to be seen.

A look at the four more valuable teams shows generic hatred by outsiders may be a requirement for this grouping of elites. The Dallas Cowboys ($1.85 billion), New York Yankees ($1.85 billion), Real Madrid ($1.88 billion) and Manchester United ($2.23 billion) round out the top honors.
