If you live in the District, you may end up paying more to heat your home.
Earlier this year, proposed two rate hikes that would generate an extra $148 million over five years to finance a gas pipe replacement program and cover post-employment benefits for the company’s workers.
The gas company is seeking a $29 million rate hike to pay for employee pension costs and a separate increase of $119 million to replace gas lines, the Washington Business Journal reports.
, D.C. residents could be charged nearly $12 more each month.
The has not ruled on the proposal yet and the case will likely continue into next year.
Washington Gas serves more than 1 million customers in the District, Maryland, and Virginia.
