Boil water advisory lifted for Largo neighborhood

WASHINGTON – issued by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission on Thursday, Nov. 22 was lifted on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 9:15 p.m.

A break in a 16-inch water main on New Orchard Drive left some 600 customers in a subdivision without water on Thanksgiving Day.

Water testing conducted in the area since Thursday indicates there are no signs of harmful bacteria. However, WSSC and the Maryland Department of the Environment urge residents to take a final precaution by flushing the cold water lines in their homes.

More specifically, WSSC recommends that those affected by the advisory complete the following:

Run all cold water taps for five minutes.

Set single-lever faucets to run the cold water.

Begin with the highest faucet in the home or business and then open the other faucets one at a time, moving from the highest floor to the lowest.

After five minutes, turn off the faucets in reverse order, from lowest to highest.

Flush the refrigerator’s water lines.
