WASHINGTON – Now that the election dust has settled, it’s time to focus on what really matters: weekend fun. Celebrate photography, buy some handmade goods or honor America’s veterans.
A laser light show and fireworks usher in a new season of ice skating at Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Live music from the Dan Haas Trio will help get the party started. The is free, but skating is $8 for adults, $7 for kids under 12 and $3 for skate rentals.
Saturday marks the opening night of . Now in its fifth year, it will feature photography from local, national and international artists. Montgomery County is welcoming the season with a new 30-foot-tall installation in downtown Silver Spring. is an eco-friendly structure made from bottles donated by residents and visitors. Each bottle was spray-painted by local artist Julia Vogl to reflect the diversity of the area. The grand unveiling is Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is free to the public.
Celebrate Veterans Day with Chicago and Kansas at the American Freedom Festival Saturday evening at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. Proceeds from the benefit concert go to aid veterans and current servicemembers. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the performance starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $39.50 and can be .
