WASHINGTON – Before heading to Monday’s swearing-in ceremony and parade, your consider inauguration transportation carefully.

Depending from where you’ll be coming, Metrorail may not be the best choice.

“If you live in Dupont Circle or Logan Circle, your best bet may well be to walk on Inauguration Day, or try taking Metrobus if you’re a little bit farther out. (If you live in) Columbia Heights, Metrobus is going to be a great option for you straight down 14th Street or 16th Street,” says Metro spokesman Dan Stessel.

“Don’t forget about Metrobus. It’ll probably be a very pleasant ride for a lot of folks and not overly crowded the way that Metrorail can be by the time you get to those interior downtown stations,” he adds.

Metrobus will operate on a regular weekday schedule Monday, with early afternoon rush hour service to help clear the crowds on the National Mall.

Buses heading to or near the Mall will have special signs displayed in the front window.

Because of road closings, many bus routes will end sooner than they normally do near the Mall.

“The best piece of advice we can give anyone in advance is to make sure you have a properly loaded SmarTrip or farecard for everyone in your group in advance of Inauguration Day,” Stessel says.

Sales offices at Metro Center and the Anacostia station that are normally closed on Saturday will be open that day especially to sell Commemorative Inaugural SmarTrip cards. The cards will also be available for purchase Sunday at .
