D.C. United stadium deal in the works

Allen Lew, a top official in Mayor Vincent Gray’s administration, said a plan is in the works for a deal with D.C. United to build a new stadium for the team on Buzzard Point in Southwest D.C., .

Lew said in an interview last week that after repeated meetings with the team’s new ownership and other stakeholders, he hopes to have the framework for a deal to build a new stadium “inside of a year.”

D.C. United has agreed to pay for the cost to build a stadium that would would accommodate at least 20,000 fans and also host non-soccer events including college sports and concerts.
