WASHINGTON – Monday is Tax Day and some may not be ready to file their federal returns, so they will need an extension. But the move will not delay having to pay the Internal Revenue Service.
Getting an extension is as easy as visiting the and clicking which gives you an automatic six-month extension that ends on Oct.15. But , a filer still has to make an effort to estimate and pay the tax owed. If you don’t pay what is owed, then interest will accrue on it until it is paid.
Those who file for an extension might also be charged a late payment penalty unless filers have a very good reason for not paying on time.
