WASHINGTON – Hungry for an exciting summer weekend? Don’t let the heat — and looming chance for potential thunder storms — keep you inside. There’s plenty going on in the D.C. area, including live music, food and film events.
International film fans will not be disappointed this weekend. The Mexican Cultural Institute will show “Visa to Paradise” on Friday, June 28, as part of the .
The is also in full swing this weekend, with “Cold War” showing both Friday, June 28 and Sunday, June 30 at Freer Gallery of Art.
For culture buffs, the nine-day Smithsonian Folklife Festival runs through June 30, and then again from July 3 to July 7. Expect lots of performances, food and exhibits.
Music fans can kick-off the weekend with the National Gallery of Art’s free concert series, Jazz in the Garden on Friday, June 28 from 5 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
Also on Friday, the National Symphony Orchestra will play its performance at Wolf Trap, and will host its weekly free concert series with The Crawdaddies from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Food fanatics have a full-plate this weekend. Pearl Dive Oyster Palace will throw its final of the season. Plenty of Louisiana crawfish and Southern sides — think cornbread and pies — will be served family style.
On Saturday, June 30 the will takeover the Fairgrounds at Half Street to celebrate Latin food, music and dance.
Eating for a good cause is taken to a whole new level at this weekend’s on Sunday, June 30. Some of the area’s most beloved chefs will attempt to make the best burger in a competition that benefits D.C. teens.
