WASHINGTON – So far, there’s nothing to stop all robocalls from reaching phones.
Phone users can add their numbers to the Federal Trade Commission’s , but that only blocks telemarketers. They can still receive calls about surveys and messages for charities and political organizations.
But there is help for Android phone users. Check Google Play for an app called . It can block specific numbers and track down cell spammers using a reverse look up. Two other apps are and — both of which are free apps.
There aren’t any number-blocking apps for Apple users, but one option is to set a silent ringtone for unknown numbers.
But a more permanent fix may be just around the corner: Aaron Foss is a software designer who recently won a challenge from the FTC to dream up a call-blocking service.
(as in “no more robo”) will be free to individuals, but business customers will have to pay. Blocking political calls comes at a premium. Nomorobo will be available later this summer.
