Backstage: Holiday-themed musical fun around the region

WASHINGTON – Christmas is less than a week away, so that means that this weekend is full of holiday-themed events.

Scheduled for Friday night at the , the “Krampus Kristmas” DJ party will feature staff-curated sets of punk, garage and metal.

The venue’s listing for the event humorously notes, a Krampus is “a goat-like creature with chains that likes to steal children around the holidays.”

has two holiday events scheduled this weekend — jazz/soul vocalist turns in a Christmas set Saturday, and D.C.-based Redd Brothers perform Sunday.

Scheduled for Saturday, the ‘s “Future Times Holiday Party” will feature two live acts — Bookworms and Protect-U.

Scheduled for Sunday, the performs Handel’s Messiah at the Kennedy Center.

continues its run at the Kennedy Center Opera House through Jan. 5, with several performances this weekend.

Also scheduled for Sunday at , the “Santa Cluster-f@%! Christmas Spectacular” promises 60 musicians playing holiday songs without ever rehearsing and with “minimal cursing,” according to the event’s website.
