2 killed in multi-vehicle crash along I-95 in Va.

WASHINGTON – Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Prince William County Thursday morning.

Virginia State Police say a Ford Focus lost control and was hit by flatbed tractor-trailer shortly before 10 a.m. The Ford and and the trailer then hit a Honda Accord, hit a jersey barrier and traveled another 150 feet before coming to a stop near Exit 150 for Triangle.

The driver and passenger in the Ford both died at the scene, police say.

The drivers of the tractor-trailer and the Honda were not injured, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation.

All northbound lanes were closed for several hours. Lanes had reopened to traffic by 2 p.m.

Traffic was diverted at Exit 150 for Joplin Road and onto U.S. Route 1 while police investigated the accident, which caused delays between Triangle and Dumfries along Route 1.

VDOT tweeted about the backups following the crash earlier Thursday.
