WASHINGTON – A series of thefts from dorm rooms at the University of Maryland in College Park has police reminding students to treat their dorm rooms like their homes – and lock their doors.
Police also released images of people of interest in thefts Tuesday evening.
There were eight incidents of breaking and entering and personal property theft between 7 – 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7 from Centerville Hall and Cumberland Hall at the University of Maryland, police say. The eight dorm rooms that a man entered reportedly were not locked.
Between 8:45 – 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, there were four incidents of breaking and entering and theft in Denton Hall. A male suspect reportedly entered four different unlocked dorm rooms and stole property, police say.
Police say the suspect in the Jan. 30 incidents was a black male, approximately 6- feet tall with a beard. He was wearing a black or navy blue winter hat, a black coat and dark pants at the time of the incidents.
In the Feb. 7 incidents, police describe the suspect as a black male who was approximately 5-feet, 10-inches tall wearing a black winter hat and black clothing. He reportedly had a rough complexion and spoke with an accent.

Students are also reminded not to prop doors open, let workers into buildings and to lock their doors even when leaving to shower or visit friends in the hall.
