WASHINGTON — Imagine losing 60 percent of your body weight, going from woefully overweight to uncomfortably underweight.
That’s what Rachel Frederickson has done. The 24-year-old contestant on ABC’s “The Biggest Loser” lost 155 pounds while on the show, winning the competition on Tuesday after going from 260 to 105 pounds.
Doctors interviewed by say she went from one end of the unhealthy spectrum to the other, citing the 5-foot, 4-inch woman’s Body Mass Index, which is now at 18.
Health experts say anyone with a BMI below 18.5 is considered underweight.
There was outrage on Twitter after Frederickson’s win, and even the hosts of the show, Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels, were stunned.
“The Biggest Loser” is one of the most-watched reality shows on television. The goal, as its name suggests, is to lose more weight than one’s fellow contestants.
