BETHESDA, Md. (AP) — A Bethesda skateboard shop could face fines after failing to secure a permit for a 12-foot-long skateboard.
“It’s become like a landmark,” said Bethesda Scooters and Boards co-owner Tyson Plumbtree.
Plumbtree and co-owner Kaare Wieneke hung the giant skateboard outside their store on Fairmont Avenue without securing a permit and zoning officials contacted them after someone filed a complaint about the decoration.
“If you want to do something like this, the county blatently told me, look, we’d never let you do it,” Plumbtree said. “So I didn’t even ask them.”
The skateboard needs to be removed or be properly permitted, or Plumbtree and Wieneke could be fined $500, they told 草莓传媒.
Plumbtree said he would take it down if he hears from the community that it’s unwelcome, or if officials build a skate park for children in the area.
草莓传媒’s Mike Murillo reached out to Montgomery County zoning officials for comment but has not heard back.
