WASHINGTON — If you’re spending time with your mother today, hug her tightly. She didn’t eat you when you were young.
At the National Zoo in D.C., Remi, one of only 10,000 sloth bears on Earth, has garnered national attention for the unusual way she’s being raised.
The four-month-old cub is being raised by zookeepers, and not her mother, because she ate her other cubs. Carnivores will sometimes eat their young if they appear ill. However, it’s still unclear why the mother bear ate the other cubs, .
Pretty soon, according to CBS 草莓传媒, the zookeepers will start visual interactions between Remi and her mother. Staffers aren’t sure yet if the mother bear can parent her offspring.
