WASHINGTON — The U.S. Park Police issued a warning to food trucks parked along the National Mall — leave or face a penalty, a fine of $300 or more.
The business owners are being told if they don’t go somewhere else, they will be fined or even arrested, reports.
“It didn’t sound right,” food truck operator Will Salama told Fox5. “I’m not selling crack. I’m selling food.”
“We have a permit, we pay taxes, we do everything what they ask us for,” says another owner, Sam Wanis.
But U.S. Park Police say a permit from D.C. government is not adequate. For the National Mall area, vendors are required to obtain a federal permit from the National Park Service.
A group of food truck owners collected more than 1,000 petition signatures opposing the policy and plans a protest along the National Mall on Saturday.
