WASHINGTON — Maryland’s primary elections are just around the corner with starting Thursday.
Voters have a lot of decisions to make, but will they show up?
Montgomery County Council President Craig Rice says timing is key — and a lot of potential voters have vacations on their minds and are used to fall primaries.
“We’re [making] a date so early this year that it’s going to create a brand new dynamic for voter turnout,” Rice says.
“You’ve got a lot of vacations that are scheduled; I know all too well my girls were cheering this morning about school ending this Friday.”
Officials are concerned that turnout will be low, which would be a shame given all that’s at stake.
Maryland voters will be selecting candidates for the open governor and attorney general seats, as well as in races for Congress and the county council, and for county executive.
