Birth stats suggest D.C. stayed busy during shutdown

WASHINGTON — When the federal government shut down in October, there was a lot of debate over how much of an effect it would have.

Well, it’s been nine months since then, and there’s no question it had one long-lasting effect: that Sibley Memorial Hospital reports that live births are up three per day.

The jokes write themselves, but it’s going to be hard to top Brian Williams’ take:
