WASHINGTON — United States men’s national soccer team may have lost the match against Belgium Wednesday, but goalkeeper Tim Howard is winning the Internet.
Howard, 35, had a record-setting 16 saves, but it couldn’t help the team outscore Belgium. As soccer fans tuned into the game, they sounded off with support for Howard as well as the hashtag .
His efforts also prompted some to call him the “Secretary of Defense” and even prompted a that he replace Defense Department Secretary Chuck Hagel.
Hagel called the goalie to congratulate him on his performance and the Pentagon released this image of the two defenders speaking on the phone.

On Wikipedia, someone briefly changed the Wikipedia entry for Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, naming Howard as the incumbent.
Someone changed the US Secretary of Defence on Wikipedia to Tim Howard. Fantastic.
