Nordstrom Rack to land at Springfield Town Center

Sometimes (in this business, actually, often times), rumors do come true.

, and now comes confirmation Nordstrom Rack has signed a lease for a junior anchor space at Springfield Town Center — aka, the former Springfield Mall. Nordstrom .

The 33,000-square-foot store is scheduled to open in spring 2015, roughly six months after the Springfield Town Center opens for business Oct. 17. It will join H&M, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Forever 21, J Crew, Topshop Topman, Maggiano’s, Yard House, Regal Cinemas and restaurants .

It will be the sixth Nordstrom Rack in Virginia — Pentagon Centre, Tysons, downtown D.C. and Friendship Heights, among them — in addition to the state’s five existing Nordstrom stores. The Rack offers “on-trend apparel,” accessories and shoes at 30-70 percent off regular prices.

“We believe Springfield Town Center represents the best of shopping and entertainment in the area and are thrilled to be a part of the retail mix,” Geevy Thomas, Nordstrom Rack president, said in the release.

The former Springfield Mall is undergoing a $250 million renovation led by owner Vornado Realty Trust. The Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust has agreed to acquire the town center after its opening for $465 million. Then the question becomes, ?

“We look forward to offering customers a differentiated retail experience this fall with the grand re-opening of Springfield Town Center as well as the introduction of more exciting tenants to serve our shoppers,” Joseph Coradino, PREIT’s CEO, said in the release.
