Cat caught that closed Anne Arundel school

WASHINGTON – A cat that forced an Anne Arundel elementary school to close early last week has been caught.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools saying “Operation Kitty Capture Complete!” The cat was found in a supply closet at Richard Henry Lee Elementary School.

In a letter to parents, school officials say that they weren’t able to capture the cat during the weekend and believed it had left the building.

But before school began Tuesday morning, two second-grade teachers discovered urine and cat fur in a classroom supply closet. Animal control officers were called in and they found and captured the cat.

The cat will be monitored but no determination on its fate has been made, according to the letter.

Students were allowed to return to class with no further disruptions.

In the letter, the school’s principal Christopher Wooleyhand thanks parents for their patience and expresses regret for having to close school last Friday.

School was from a “potentially ill and very frightened animal,” school officials said at the time.
