PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) — Volunteers filled up more than 450 garbage bags with trash during a regional cleanup of the James River.
Volunteers also removed tires, a bicycle, appliances, furniture, toys and construction materials from the river and connected streams.
The Progress-Index (http://bit.ly/1mFOMz0 ) reports that the 15th annual James River Regional Cleanup was held Sept. 13 at 14 sites between Lynchburg and Newport ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½. The event drew more than 700 volunteers.
The cleanup kicked off the James River Advisory Council’s first week-long celebration of the river.
