WASHINGTON — Prices at the pump have been a welcome sight for drivers nationwide. They have been dropping quickly and steadily, and show no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
In the nation’s capital, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline as of Wednesday was around $3.42 a gallon, according to the fuel information site .
“We already have a couple stations under $3 a gallon in Washington, D.C.,” says Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst with the website.
Soon, the average in the nation’s capital is expected to drop below $3.35.
“By mid-November, prices across D.C. will be among the lowest they’ve been since early 2011,” DeHaan says.
Although the lower prices have been a positive trend for consumers’ wallets, they represent a negative global economic landscape. According to analysts, a weaker, slower global economy has been a major factor in driving down oil demand.
