WASHINGTON — Music and art merge on a D.C. street corner in tribute to the
late Marion Barry.
A mural of Barry has gone up, and there’s a rap song behind
it called “Mayor for Life.”
The former four-time District of Columbia mayor on Sunday at the District’s United Medical Center. He had
been released from Howard University
Hospital around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
The gigantic portrait, painted by artist Pahel Burnis, depicts Barry in a
downturned fedora. It’s painted on a wall at 14th and Randolph Streets in
Northwest.
The mural began months ago as a tribute to D.C.-based rap artist Head Roc, who
happens to have a song called “Mayor for Life.”
