WASHINGTON — After the frenzy surrounding Black Friday and the kickoff of
the holiday shopping season, Tuesday is a time to give back.
Dec. 2 is “Giving Tuesday” — a day celebrating generosity and giving.
“It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your
company or your
organization to come together to give something more,” the
says.
The website offers some :
- Hold a neighborhood yard or bake sale and give the proceeds to an
organization in need. - Hunt through the house to find items and clothing you’re not using
or haven’t used in a long time, and donate to a program that sets up families
in new homes. - Organize a community cleanup day where local volunteers work on
beautification projects. - Use social media to share your giving with
- Skip extras, such as coffee or a treat, and collect the money you
would have spent in a jar. Give that money to a local food pantry to help
others get the essential foods they need.
