DC has a Super Bowl winning team: The DC Divas

WASHINGTON — For the second consecutive season, the D.C. Divas have won the Women’s Football Alliance championship, defeating Dallas Elite 28-26 in Pittsburgh. It’s the first time a team in the WFA has ever won back-to-back titles.

The game came down to the wire with Dallas on the Divas side of the field with less than a minute to play, but Divas linebacker Slyvia Espinoza out of Farifax High School intercepted Elite QB Jessica Gearhart for the second time in the afternoon, stopping the potential game winning drive for Dallas.

It was the fourth Super Bowl appearance for the Divas since the team’s inception in 2001, and the team leads the WFA in overall wins, playoff appearances and division championships.

The Divas also beat the Dallas Elite last season in the Super Bowl.
