Brief carbon monoxide scare hits Greenbelt apartment

WASHINGTON — A woman is expected to be okay after detection of slightly elevated levels of carbon monoxide.

At about 12:30 p.m. Sunday, a neighbor’s carbon monoxide detector sounded a warning to indicate unhealthy levels of carbon monoxide in a Greenbelt apartment building, according to a press release from Prince George’s County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady.

The neighbor called 911; firefighters and paramedics responded to the 6100 block of Breezewood Court in Greenbelt and broke into a neighbor’s apartment. They found a woman unconscious and the cause was a dislodged water heater ventilation pipe.

Medics revived her and she was soon breathing on her own. The woman was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Firefighters checked every apartment in the building.

Residents have since returned to their homes.
