University of Maryland student group postpones ‘American Sniper’ screenings

WASHINGTON – The University of Maryland’s (SEE) has postponed its May 6 and May 7 screenings of “American Sniper” after meeting with concerned student groups.

According to the university, the student-led organization will not offer the movie to the campus community this semester. SEE says it is working toward a program where students can discuss their opposing views.

On , people have posted dozens of critical comments about the postponing of the screening.

The decision came after the UMd. Muslim Students Association protested the screening, . The group wrote on its , ” We sincerely appreciate your commitment to exercising your freedom of speech to create an inclusive, just, and safe campus community. As is customary etiquette in our religious community, we ask that you forgive us for any intentional and unintentional offense.”

The says it was not involved in the decision to postpone the showing of “American Sniper.”
