More customers expected to have gas restored in Laurel, but repairs continue

WASHINGTON — Although repairs for a gas outage in Laurel, Maryland, continue Wednesday, more customers will have their service restored Tuesday night.

A water main break damaged an underground gas main and sparked the gas outage, affecting over 400 Baltimore Gas and Electric customers in Laurel since Feb. 15.

Nearly 80 customers are expected to have their service restored Tuesday night, joining the over 300 customers who have already had their service restored, the city of Laurel .

BGE expects to finish repairs Wednesday, according to the city’s statement.

The outage has affected multiple blocks in Laurel. At the height of the outage, about 423 customers were without gas service. BGE crews were working 24 hours to restore service, the utility said in .

Laurel Mayor Craig Moe opened the Robert DiPetro Community Center at 701 Cypress St. in Laurel to affected customers to take showers. The city and the utility company has also provided hot meals for those affected.
