Police ID teen victim in fatal shooting near Bladensburg playground

BLADENSBURG, Md. — The teen who died following a shooting in a park in Bladensburg, Maryland, on Monday afternoon has been identified.

The shooting victim was 17-year-old Bryan Alvarado-Esquivel of Georgia Avenue in Northwest Washington.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at Varnum Park at 54th Place and Varnum Street around 2 p.m. when they found Alvarado-Esquivel suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital where he died, Bladensburg police said in a news release.

Maria Vivar, who lives close to where the shooting happened, told ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½’s that the shooting has rattled some neighbors.

“It’s scary because now we can’t trust anybody around here,” she said. “It hurts because this is a place to have fun in. Someone just got killed and it’s really shocking.”

Investigators are working to determine a motive and a suspect. Homicide detectives with the Prince George’s County Police Department will handle the case with assistance from both the Bladensburg Police Department and the Maryland-National Capital Park Police.

Officials are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
