ICE officer kills fugitive at Prince William Co. hotel

WASHINGTON — A fugitive wanted on several warrants was fatally shot Friday morning by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer after a federal task force tracked him down at a Dumfries, Virginia, hotel.

Officers with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force had received a lead that 37-year-old Mario Dantoni Bass of Woodbridge was at a Days Inn in Dumfries, Virginia, said Prince William County police. Task force officers found Bass, who broke through an upper-floor window and fled before encountering the ICE officer.

A struggle ensued, police said, and the suspect was shot.

Prince William County police had been seeking Bass on 11 active warrants, most recently in connection with a domestic-related abduction earlier this month.

Additional warrants for the fugitive — including ones for felony grand larceny auto and identity theft — date as far back as September 2015.

No other injuries were reported. Prince William County police are leading the investigation.
