WASHINGTON – “You must remember this.”
Local theaters are celebrating the 70th Anniversary of “Casablanca” Wednesday night in Arlington, Leesburg, and Hanover, Md.
The 1942 classic was recently voted the by the American Film Institute. Meanwhile, the Writers Guild of America voted it the with six — count ’em, six — lines making the :
- (#67) “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.”
- (#43) “We’ll always have Paris.”
- (#32) “Round up the usual suspects.”
- (#28) “Play it, Sam.”
- (#20) “Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”
- (#5) “Here’s looking at you, kid.”
Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman sacrifice their hearts for the betterment of mankind, striking a major blow against the Nazis in exotic Morocco.
But why do we keep returning to the film after all these years? The film’s says it all:
“It’s still the same old story, a fight for love and glory, a case of do or die. The world will always welcome lovers as time goes by.”
