The U.S. Women’s National Team broke the all-time record with 13 goals in their opening match at the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France.
The USWNT shut out Thailand 13-0, with Alex Morgan scoring five times, including the record-breaker.
The former record was 11 goals, set by Germany against Argentina in 2007.
Washington Spirit player Rose Lavelle scored twice, while teammate for club and country Mallory Pugh came off the bench to score as well. In all, seven different players scored for the U.S., which took 40 shots to Thailand’s two and controlled 72 percent of possession.
The USWNT plays its second group stage game Sunday at noon vs. Chile.
