Royals starter Cole Ragans removed after 3 scoreless innings against Cleveland

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Royals starter Cole Ragans was removed after three scoreless innings and 58 pitches against Cleveland on Wednesday night.

Luinder Avila started warming up in the bottom of the third and entered to start the fourth. There was no immediate announcement by the team of any injury.

A 28-year-old left-hander, Ragans is 1-4 with a 4.84 ERA. He allowed one hit, walked two and struck out four.

He walked two batters in the first and escaped the two-on, one-out trouble by striking out Rhys Hoskins and David Fry.

After a perfect second, Chase DeLauter doubled with two outs in the third and José Ramírez reached on a throwing error by third baseman Maikel Garcia. Hoskins hit an inning-ending popup.
