WASHINGTON (AP) 鈥� The Colorado Rockies placed pitcher Kyle Freeland on the 15-day injured list Monday because of a pinched nerve.
The left-hander left his after 3 2/3 innings when he felt pain going from his neck down to his fingers. Colorado manager Warren Schaeffer said Freeland felt better Thursday, and the team鈥檚 initial plan was to avoid an IL stint.
鈥淗e went to throw a bullpen yesterday, and it didn鈥檛 go well,鈥� Schaeffer said. 鈥淪houlder didn鈥檛 feel right, so we have to put him on the IL.鈥�
The move was made retroactive to Friday.
Freeland is 4-10 with a 6.37 ERA in 23 starts. He leads Colorado in both strikeouts (103) and innings pitched (124 1/3).
The Rockies selected the contract of right-hander Blake Adams from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Freeland鈥檚 roster spot. Adams is 2-5 with an 8.10 ERA in 17 games with Albuquerque.
