WASHINGTON — Metro has resumed regular service on the Red Line on Tuesday after single tracking through the morning rush hour.
Red Line trains were single tracking between Judiciary Square and Farragut North after a train derailed about 500 feet from the Metro Center platform on Monday morning.
As of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, all the repairs were completed, and equipment and personnel had been cleared, according to Metro.
Investigators believe the derailment was caused by a break in the steel rail, which broke apart after the first four rail cars passed over it. No injuries were reported but dozens of passengers were stranded for about an hour and a half before being safely evacuated to Metro Center.
Passengers that were on the train that derailed on Monday will get fare refunds, according to Metro spokesperson Dan Stessel.
Tuesday’s delays sparked outrage online from Metro commuters. See what some Red Line passengers had to say about the delays on Twitter.

After living in DC for nearly 8 years, today was the first day I gave up on my commute and walked back home. Red line is a total mess.

So Fort Totten was an massive riot as they closed the doors on folks and there was not another train for 10 minutes. Some people behind me were taking videos of people literally trying to break the doors.

What a morning. Stood at Friendship Heights for 30 mins and couldn’t get on the metro b/c of crowding. Do better . I went back home and got a Lyft to work

DC Workforce: Man, it’s hard coming back from a long weekend. Hopefully today won’t be too bad. Red Line: Hold my beer.

It's got to be frustrating to work at , know based on your expertise what was advertised was misleading or wasn't going to happen, yet just kind of have to swallow all that and do your job today anyway as riders complain in droves. Not very motivating.

I can hear the desperate announcements they're yelling at metro center. I'm so glad I avoided the red line.
