The coronavirus pandemic is impacting cruises and flights, but it鈥檚 less clear what it might mean for summer trips to the beach.
In Bethany Beach, Delaware, 鈥淭here has really been no impact on our business thus far,鈥 said Carolyn Fitz of Tansey-Warner Realty. 鈥淲e鈥檙e actually getting online bookings every day.鈥
Fitz said she has fielded a few calls about the cancellation policies for beach rentals.
Hotels in nearby Rehoboth and Dewey beaches have reported 鈥渟poradic鈥 cancellations, according to Carol Everhart of the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce.
鈥淚t鈥檚 not like everything is closed down. It鈥檚 not that everyone has canceled events,鈥 Everhart said. 鈥淪o right now, it鈥檚 a wait and see, just like everybody else.鈥
Some travelers have asked Everhart if the beaches could actually see more visitors during the pandemic, because they’re mainly accessible by car.
鈥淚 can鈥檛 say that I know that yet or see that trend,鈥 she said.
On Wednesday, Delaware announced its first positive coronavirus case, involving a man in northern Delaware.
Still, Fitz said that on the heels of a good spring, 鈥渆verybody is very positive. We鈥檙e all looking for a great summer.鈥
