WASHINGTON — A fundraising letter from a Texas middle school is making its rounds on social media after a Dallas-area mom shared it on Facebook.
鈥淎fter reading it, my husband and I got such a chuckle out of it and we thought it was so refreshing,鈥� says聽, a mother of three.
Heinz says her 12-year-old daughter brought聽the letter home聽Tuesday.
Unlike conventional fundraising letters, the form uses a hands-off approach to collecting money.
The PTA offers parents an alternative聽from the usual聽baking, buying wrapping paper and participating in marathons. They ask for donations — in a really blunt way.
The $50 option reads, “I don’t want to walk,聽swim or run in any activity that has the word ‘thon’ in it. Here is the money I would have spent on my child’s ‘free’ T-shirt.”
鈥淲e liked the idea that 100 percent of proceeds go to the school,鈥� Heinz tells ABC 草莓传媒. 鈥淲e have been run to the ground with fundraisers so this is a good option for us.鈥�
Heinz says time is a valuable resource and she appreciates having the option to donate instead.
She says the school’s PTA has been sending the fundraising letters home for a couple of years now.
The letter has been shared聽more than 230,000 times.
